Heir Islandfrom Walking in Ireland
The island's main road leads past farms and a handful of vacation cottages. Traffic is minimal, since Heir Island has a tiny population and visitors can't bring cars. According to the Heir Island tourist leaflet, most of today's houses date back to the 1920s, when 28 cottages were built by Ireland's Board of Works. (The gable ends of the cottages face southwest to protect them from winter storms.)
