Erfurt PhotosFrom: Erfurt, Germany
ÄgidienkircheThe Ägidienkirche, or Church of St. Aegidius, was constructed at the entrance to the Krämerbrücke from 1321 to 1324 as a replacement for a 12th Century roadside chapel. The sanctuary is one flight up from ground level; from there, a wooden staircase leads into the tower (shown above), where you can enjoy a view of Erfurt's historic center from an outdoor gallery for a small fee. Methodists purchased the Ägidienkirche a number of years ago and turned it into what they jokingly call "the oldest Methodist Church in the world." (The church is 400 years older than the Methodist denomination.)
