Bern Airport: Flughafen Bern-Belp
Most air travelers to Switzerland enter the country via Zürich or Geneva Airport, but the Swiss capital of Bern is another option worth investigating if you're flying by private plane or arriving from a handful of destinations in Europe. Flughafen Bern-Belp is located a few kilometers outside the city, just west of the motorway that leads to Thun and the Oberland. The airport is no Haensli-come-lately to the Swiss aviation scene: It dates back to 1929. Only a few small airlines operate at Bern-Belp Airport. (When we last checked in summer of 2000, the only foreign destinations served were in Greece and Spain.) However, the airport does accomodate private planes, including business jets, at its General Aviation Center. A number of tour operators also use Flughafen Bern-Belp for charter flights. The "Bernmobil" airport bus (Line 160) runs between the Flughafen and Bern's main railroad station with a stop at the Belp Bahnhof train station. S-Bahn trains from several nearby cities stop at Belp Bahnhof, where you can catch the No. 1260 Bernmobile bus to the airport.
