Mozart Memorials and Salzburg Tourist Information
Mozart's Birthplace
The composer's birthplace, a.k.a. Mozarts Geburtshaus, now houses a museum that displays his violins, piano,
and other memorabilia. An apartment is furnished to show how people of Mozart's
class lived in the mid- to late 1700s.
Mozart's
Residence
The Mozart family lived here in Mozarts Wohnhaus from 1773 to 1780. Much of the house was destroyed
by a bomb in World War II, but it was reconstructed by the International
Mozarteum Foundation. (Note: You can save money with a combined ticket for the
the Wohnhaus and Geburtshaus, and both attractions are free to holders of the
local tourist office's Salzburg
Card.)
Mozarteum
University Salzburg
In addition to courses during the academic year (some of which are open to
foreign students), the university has an International Summer Academy that has
offered master classes to outstanding young musicians since 1916.
Mirabell Mozartkugeln
Echte Salzburger Mozartkugeln, or "Genuine Salzburg Mozart Balls," are a
popular souvenir for the tourist with a sweet tooth. At its Web site, Mirabell
has information and quizzes about the candy and the composer--along with the
revelation that it's now owned by Kraft Foods
Österreich.
