Erfurt TransportationFrom: Erfurt, Germany
How to reach ErfurtBy air. A handful of regional airlines, low-cost carriers, and charter airlines serve Erfurt-Weimar Airport. The nearest transoceanic gateways are Munich International Airport (MUC) and Frankfurt (FRA). Munich is your best bet if you want to arrive by air, while Frankfurt is closer by train. Lufthansa has more flights to and from Germany than any other airline, with three transatlantic gateways (Frankfurt, Munich, and Düsseldorf).
By train. The Deutsche Bahn's Intercity Express (ICE), Intercity (IC), and Eurocity (EC) trains connect Erfurt with cities throughout Germany. From Frankfurt, you can reach Erfurt by ICE in slightly over two hours. Use the DB English-language journey planner to search for trains. By car. Erfurt is in the state of Thuringia, on the A4 Autobahn from Frankfurt am Main to Dresden. Exit at Erfurt-West or Erfurt-Ost and follow the signs to the Innenstadt. Ask your hotel about parking before you arrive; you may need to park in one of the SWE parking garages in the city center. Local transportationDistances are short in the city center, where you'll spend most of your time. If you're carrying heavy luggage, you may want to hire a taxi or use a tram to reach your hotel. EVAG operates public transportation in the city. On foot, the city center is a level walk of about 15 minutes from the railroad station. Head toward the Innenstadt on the Bahnhofstraβe; when you reach the irregularly-shaped Anger square, stop at Buch Habel (Anger 7) or Buchhandlung Peterknecht (Anger 28) to buy a street map.
