Rothenburg ob der TauberPage 7
Arriving and departingBy air. Nürnberg Airport is the closest airport to Rothenburg, being just 90 km (less than 60 miles) away. If you're arriving from another continent, your best bet is Munich International Airport (241 km/150 miles) or Frankfurt International Airport (118 km/117 km). Munich is the handiest international gateway if--like many English-speaking tourists--you plan to spend most or all of your German vacation in Bavaria. (If you're arriving in your own light plane, you can use the local flying club's public airstrip.) By railroad. Rothenburg is three to four hours from Munich, with several changes of train required. Frankfurt is only slightly more convenient. See the international pages at the Deutsche Bahn Web site. By car. Rothenburg is close to Würzburg, just 2 km (1.3 miles) from the Würzburg-Ulm section of Autobahn A7. See the A7 route information at Autobahn.de and exit at Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Getting around townRothenburg ob der Tauber is extremely compact, and you can easily get around on foot. Another possibility is a tour of the town by pedicab; see the tourist office or your hotel concierge for details. Bicycle rentals are available at Rad & Tat Rothenburg, which has suggested touring itineraries. ParkingStreet parking is prohibited in the center of Rothenburg from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. except by special permit. Fore more about parking, see the tourist office's Driving and Parking page. Next page: More links
