The one-star Locanda Fiorita is one of Venice's least-publicized hotel gems. It's a lovely, flower-bedecked building on a tiny square just off the Campo San Stefano near the Accademia Bridge. The Piazza San Marco is a 10-minute walk from the hotel.

Rooms aren't luxurious, but they're furnished with taste and charm, and all have private baths. They also come with two admirable extras: the chance to enjoy breakfast outdoors in good weather, and free Wi-Fi throughout the premises. In short, the Locanda Fiorita ranks near the top of the scale for value--especially in the San Marco district, where hotel rates tend to be on the high side.

How to reach the Locanda Fiorita from the Sant'Angelo airport-boat stop (Alilaguna Linea Arancio):

1. As you leave the waterbus platform, walk straight ahead down the short street to an L-shaped square. Cross the square and exit via a narrow street on the opposite site.

2. Turn right onto the fondamenta or sidewalk along the canal. Walk straight ahead and through an arcaded passage. You'll see two bridges: one ahead of you, and one on the left. Cross the left bridge into the Calle del Pestrin.

3. Follow the Calle del Pestrin until you see a small elevated square on your right, the Campiello Nuovo. The Locanda Fiorita will be facing you. (See photo above.)
