Palazzetto Madonna photo

The Palazzetto Madonna is a bit of a walk from the nearest Alilaguna airport-boat stop (Ca' Rezzonico), but unless you're burdened with heavy luggage, it's worth the pleasant stroll.

The Palazzetto Madonna, which opened only a few years ago, is in a lovely small palace overlooking a canalside fondamenta not far from the Frari Church. A small garden courtyard adds to the palazzetto's appeal. As a bonus, the immediate neighborhood has several popular cafés and restaurants.

The hotel offers 15 rooms, ranging from doubles to suites. (Two are handicapped-accessible.) If your budget permits, we suggest booking a deluxe double or suite with a canal view.

How to reach Palazzetto Maddona from the Alilaguna Linea Arancio airport-boat stop at Ca' Rezzonico:

Palazzetto Madonna map directions

  1. From the Ca' Rezzonico airport-boat and vaporetto pier, walk inland to Campo San Barnaba.

  2. When you reach the square, turn right immediately and cross the small bridge just beyond the deconsecrated church. (You may recognize the building as the Library from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.)

  3. Continue straight ahead on the Calle de le Botteghe.

  4. Turn right at the corner onto the Calle San Bernardo, then turn left at the next corner into the Calle Cappeller.

  5. When you reach a small triangular campo (the Campiello dei Squelini), follow the diagonal traffic path into the Calle Foscari.

  6. Continue straight ahead, crossing a large stone bridge.

  7. Keep going, past Venice's Vigili del Fuoco (Fire Department) headquarters, into the Calle Gozzi.

  8.  Cross the small bridge aftter the Trattoria Dona Onesta.

  9. Turn right after the bridge and walk a short distance alongside the canal to the Palazzetto Madonna.

From the San Tomà vaporetto stop:

If you're coming from Piazzale Roma or the Santa Lucia Railroad Station and the public water buses aren't too crowded, you can take the No. 1 vaporetto to the San Tomà ACTV stop. From there, it's a quick walk to the Palazzetto Madonna with no bridges to cross:

  1. As you leave the waterbus pier, walk straight ahead on the Calle Traghetto Vecchio.

  2. Turn left at the first cross street, the Calle del Campanile.

  3. Walk to the next corner and turn right before the bridge onto the Fondamenta del Forner. The Palazzetto Madonna will be on your right, facing the canal.

Tip: You'll find the San Tomà ACTV stop handy for sightseeing trips up and down the Grand Canal, even if you arrive and depart on Alilaguna's airport boat.
