Berlin five-star hotels
Adlon
Kempinski Berlin
Kaiser Wilhelm II was a regular guest at the Adlon when his drafty palace got
cold. That hotel was later torn down by the East German authorities, but today's
version--built in 1997--seeks to recapture the luxury of yesteryear. The hotel is on Unter
den Linden by the Brandenburg Gate.
Schlosshotel
im Grunewald
"Intimacy" is the watchword here; the Schlosshotel (German for "castle hotel") has
just 55 ultra-luxe rooms in a 1914-vintage private palace that was restored
under the direction of international designer Karl Lagerfeld. The hotel is in
the Grunewald forest, west of the city center.
Swisshôtel Berlin
Kurfürstendamm
This modern luxury hotel, which opened in 2001, is affiliated with Leading
Hotels of the World. Its 316 rooms are decorated in a contemporary style
with original artworks by the architect, Markus Lupertz.
Hotel Bristol
Shoppers will enjoy the Bristol, which lies directly on the Kurfürstendamm. The
hotel began its life as a wine tavern in 1872; the current structure was built
with Marshall Plan aid in 1952. The hotel features a spa and wellness area in
Greco-Roman style where you can have drinks and snacks between visits to the
steam room, sauna, infrared cabin, and two indoor pools.
