Hotels on the Lido and MuranoLido di Venezia
The
Lido is a barrier island and beach
resort between the Adriatic Sea and the Venetian Lagoon (including the city
of Venice). From the Lido Santa Maria Elisabetta waterbus stop at the foot
of the island's main street,
ACTV
vaporetti provide transportation to central Venice. Alilaguna
Linea Blu and
Linea Rossa airport
boats run between Marco Polo Airport and the Lido, and--just as
important--Linea Blu offers a direct service from the Lido to the
Marittima cruise basin. Boats arrive right next to the ships, as you can see
in this photo:
Hotels
on the Lido tend to be cheaper than hotels in Venice's centro storico,
and most of them can be reached on foot over level sidewalks, without
crossing any bridges. Also, because cars are permitted on the Lido, it's
possible to take a cab from the waterbus station to your hotel. Bottom line:
If you're arriving in Venice at Marco Polo Airport and departing by cruise
ship from Marittima (or vice versa), a hotel on the Lido can be convenient
and save you money at the same time. For more information, see:
The
glassmaking island of Murano
is a few minutes south of Venice's centro storico by public
ACTV water bus. It's also on
Alilaguna's Linea Blu and Linea Blu
airport boat routes. From Murano, you can take the
Linea Blu boat all the
way to the Marittima cruise basin.
If
you're arriving in Venice at Marco Polo Airport and departing by cruise ship
from Marittima (or vice versa), and
if you like the idea of being on a small island in the evening after the day
tourists have gone home, you should consider spending a night on
Murano. The island has affordable B&Bs, two- and three-star hotels, and a
new four-star hotel in a renovated glass factory. For more information, see: Back to: Venice Cruise Terminal Hotels (Introduction)
